Supporting our people after the El Compas Mine ceases production

Suspending operations in a mine is never an easy task – At the start of the year, we acknowledged that  El Compas had a short mine life due to limited mineral reserve and we began the communication process to support our workforce when we transitioned the mine into ‘Care and Maintenance’ mode.

When we formally decided to suspend operations at El Compas in the summer of 2021, we began evaluating employees and their skills to identify opportunities our other sites. After holding individual conversations with our team members, we successfully transferred 17 persons (7 women and 10 men) to other sites or our regional office.

For those workers who could not be transferred, they left the company according to all regulations and received the appropriate settlement packages. We also supported those individuals in updating their CVs and provided training in using job search websites in Zacatecas.
